Hernández/Martínez vs Casali/Fassio

First in action on Monday were Sandra Hernández and Patricia Martínez, who played Italian Carlotta Casali and Martina Fassio for a ticket to the main draw.

In the quickest match of the day, lasting only 49 minutes, Hernández and Martínez were simply too good to handle for Casali and Fassio.

The opening set finished 6-1, followed by a 6-0 in the second set to put themselves in the main draw.

In it, they will play the temporary couple of Virginia Riera and Nuria Rodríguez.

Caparrós/Barrera vs García/Pinacho

Second up were two Martas in Marta Caparrós and Marta Barrera, taking on Carmen García and Marina Pinacho.

Caparrós and Barrera already made it out of qualifying in Vienna, eventually falling in the round of 16 to Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay, and looked to make another on Monday.

The two very young Spaniards did well in the opening set, taking an early break and winning 6-3, and were able to repeat the trick in the second set, which they won 6-4.

Through to another main draw, they will play Alicia Blanco and Sara Ruiz on Tuesday.

Stellato/Petrelli vs Vivancos/Pascual

Italian veterans Emily Stellato and Carolina Petrelli faced two-seed and favourites Lourdes Pascual and Nuria Vivancos next.

A match that last an hour and a half, Stellato and Petrelli managed to find a way through when tied at 5-5 in the first set. It went 7-5 to the Italian couple, who carried their momentum into the second set.

Breaking twice in a row, they could run to a 6-2 win, putting them in another main draw. Three-seed Marta Ortega and Bea González await in the round of 32.

Blanco/Ruiz vs Girdo/Brito

Finally, Spaniards Alicia Blanco and Sara Ruiz faced Swedish-Argentinian opposition in Amanda Girdo and Nelida Brito.

In a three-set affair, favourites Blanco and Ruiz fulfilled expectations as they ran away with the first set 6-2.

The response came from Brito and Girdo in the second set. A pair who made the round of 16 in Brussels in the main draw, they wanted to be among the best again and they won the second set 4-6.

It was not meant to be, however, as Blanco and Ruiz retook the initiative and won the set 6-4, and with it, the match.
