It was an evening full of surprises in the La Rioja Open 2023 round of 16 at the Super Domo, with seven thousand Argentinian fans cheering all players on.
18th-seeded Lucas Bergamini and Victor Ruiz caused the first upset of the day, knocking out top-seeded Sanyo Gutierrez and Fernando Belasteguin in straight sets.
Next, teenage wild cards Valentino Libaak and Leandro Augsburguer triggered one of the biggest surprises in recent memory. The Argentinians became the first-ever wild cards to make the quarter-finals, beating three-seed Paquito Navarro and Juan Tello in straight sets. At 17 years and 7 months old, Libaak had become the youngest male quarter-finalist in World Padel Tour history.
