Coello and Tapia can crown themselves as 2023's World Padel Tour number ones should they lift the title on Sunday, but saw their tournament almost come to an early end by the Gutierrez uncle and nephew.
Tapia and Sanyo Gutierrez won the Malmö Padel Open in 2021 and reached the final in 2022, and there was no love lost between the former partners as they exchanged many winners.
Coello and Tapia had a 5-0 lead in the second set but saw it almost disappear entirely, needing a third break at 5-4 to seal the set before running away with the third.
The number one seed will face Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan on Saturday, the Spaniards having beaten Coello and Tapia the last two times they played.
