Last year at the Estrella Damm Barcelona Master Final 2022

The tenth edition of the event in World Padel Tour, the Estrella Damm Master Final 2022 was as emotional as any other tournament in padel history.

Off the court, fans said goodbye to legends and former number ones Marta Marrero and Ceci Reiter, both of whom announced their retirement from the sport.

Marrero had participated in the tournament with Lucia Sainz, having reached the final in 2021, but could not reach the same heights in her final event before hanging up her racket.

The Spaniard from the Canary Islands is the 2016 and 2019 number one of the world, explaining she wanted to step away from the sport to focus on her family.

On the court, both the men's and women's draws featured historic matches and wins. For the first time ever, there was a direct, one-off match to decide who would finish the year as the number one of the world.

Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez had topped the rankings since September, but a stunning finish to the season saw Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay win five consecutive titles to stay alive in the fight.

Both couples reached the final and would be crowned champions with a win. In an incredibly emotional three-set match, Salazar and Triay would come out on top to defend their crown.

After mixed seasons with several different partners, both Martin Di Nenno and Fede Chingotto arrived to the Master Final without their usual partners as they did not have enough points to qualify, meaning the two right-sided players had to form an unlikely partnership.

Stunningly, the Argentinians made it to the final, knocking out two-seed Sanyo Gutierrez and Agustin Tapia on their way there, and would take Alejandro Galan and Juan Lebron to three sets.
